My first flakie nail polish!

So I had seen lots of photos on the internet of flakie nail polishes and they looked soooo good! I scoured the internet for places that I could buy them. I found that my local superdrug stocks flakie polishes by Nail Pop so I made my way there on a weekend and bought two. I got one with flakes that shines orange & green called sequin effect shade 24 and one that shines blue.

I decided to try out the orange and green one first atop a brown base. I used George nail polish in boomerang and Nail Pop sequin effect 24. I really like the effect of the flakes, however I was a bit disappointed. I would have liked the flakes in this polish to be a bit more dense. I didn't want to put a thick coat on and the flakie polish took a little while to dry so I decided not to try and build up the flakes.

I really do like the effect so I might just have to try this design again sometime soon and see if I can get it looking a bit more full.

Nails

"Not sure what to call these" nails!

For these nails I'm not really sure what I was going for, maybe just an abstract look. Well anyway, I thought they would look nice and after finishing them I don't think they looked too bad. I first painted my nails with Nails Inc. harley street ridge filler. I then used a Gosh polish in Gasoline with a silver polish called Metal Fast Silver Speed (from Maybelline I think, the name kind of rubbed off the bottle) and a Barry M black polish with no name.

I tried to make a gradient kind of effect with the Gosh polish but a gradient throughout the hand, not on individual nails. What I mean by this is that that the polish is more transparent on the pinky and gets bolder as it works its way to the thumb. I did this by applying one coat on the pinky, two on the ring finger up to five coats on my thumb. I don't think this effect was as prominent as I would have liked.

I then added the silver stripes on my ring finger and the hash on my thumb using a striping brush. I used the same striping brush to do the black lines, after I had cleaned it of course.

I haven't got the most steady hands so the stripes didn't exactly come out perfect but I guess practice does make perfect.

Nails

Shimmery nude nails!

Since I was still in school at the time and nail polish was not allowed, I decided I would wear a semi nude colour to try and not get caught. Up close it was quite noticeable that I was wearing nail polish, but from a distance these nails did the trick. I used a Nails Inc. base coat in harley street ridge filler and then painted on Nails Inc. st james's park. I then painted over the top using Maybelline shimmery off white colour which I could not find the name of.

I really love the colour the Maybelline nail polish comes out, even if it is quite transparent! I don't think I'd wear the polish by itself as it is too translucent for me but I think it looks really pretty atop this peachy colour.

I was a bit impatient painting these and they ended up with a few wrinkles where they were pushed on when they were not completely dry.

However, I find fault in that it is really difficult to use it and not come out with streaky nails.

Gradient nails!

Not too long after painting my galaxy nails I decided to try something a bit simpler, I tried pink and blue gradient nails. By that I mean I tried pink gradient and then I tried blue. For these I had to make do with an eye shadow brush again since I still had no sponge!
I had recently visited Spain and bought a cute light shimmery pink nail polish which I used for the pink gradient. I used that pink nearest the cuticle and used NYC Lincoln square lavender and then Nails Inc. Primrose hill road, working my way to the tip. I used the Nails Inc. Harley street ridge filler for a base and NYC long wearing enamel for a top coat for both sets of gradient nails.

I found the Nails Inc. Polish not pigmented enough and had to put several coats on the tip to make it as opaque as I did.

I think these came out quite well however I feel that if I had used a sponge the gradient would have looked a bit smoother.

For the blue gradient nails I used mostly the same polishes as I did for my galaxy nails. I used NYC pastle sparkly green, Barry M Cyan, a 17 navy blue and a Miss Sporty black.

I really like the colour the 17 navy nail polish comes out.

There were a few cracks in these nails as I took these photos a little while after painting them.

I also feel these would have come out better if I had used a sponge, but I still like how they came out.

Nails

My first attempt at nail art!

Way back in 2012, I discovered nail art. I had always liked my nails being painted but had not considered how pretty they could be if they were not just a block colour.
So for my first attempt I tried galaxy nails, I'd seen a lot of photos on the internet of them and just fell in love. They were gorgeous!

As I did not have a sponge that could be used to make the gradient effect of the galaxy among the darkness, I used an eye shadow pad (you know one of those things you apply eye shadow with). I used a Miss Sporty Black, a 17 navy blue, a Barry M white, NYC pastel sparkly green, clear and glitter and a sparkle top coat from Collection 2000. The only ones that seem to have names are the sparkle top coat called 'Sparkle Top Coat', the NYC glittery one called 'Starry Silver Glitter' and the Barry M white called 'Matt Black', haha, I assume that was a mistake on the companies behalf. These are all pictured below.

To start with I used a clear base coat. I then applied the black nail polish. I applied the navy nail polish to my eye shadow pad and patted it onto my black base to form a kind of oval shape. I repeated this with the white polish in the centre of the blue and then again with the green polish to soften the line between the white and blue. I added some large flecks of glitter, as nearby stars and a polish with tiny glitter specks as far away stars. To finish off I used a top coat to seal the design.

In my opinion, my right hand went so much better than the left. I suppose its because there's a lot more blue and a lot less white. But anyway, I thought this was really good considering it was my first attempt!

Who am I?

I am an 18 year old girl from England who is currently studying her A-levels. I enjoy doing my nails, taking photos of nature, making crafts and playing with my cats!

I first got into doing my nails back in 2011 and haven't looked back. I have been sharing my nail art on my Instagram for a couple years now and have decided I want to share more about my designs (such as what I used and how I created them) and I just thought a blog would be perfect for this!

I adore my cats, of which I have three, Tiger, Lily and Bambi. They're all absolute cuties and I plan on sharing any extra cute moments they have!

I also enjoy taking photos of nature and places I travel to as well as creating crafty things. I have travelled to a few places and plan on sharing my experiences with you as well as photos I've taken. Particular things I enjoy making are things that pop-up such as kirigami, or modular origami, recently I have made some cards using these techniques.

So why have I decided to blog?

I have been reading other blogs for a while now and decided I want my own! The blogging community is very friendly and I would like to share things I have made with you guys. I want to share things I have made and how I made them as well as write about experiences I have had and what I think about them, in the hopes that some of you would like to listen.

I plan on blogging about nail art designs I make and other nail-y products, my cute little kitties, crafty things I have made and nature I have photographed.
